What is an intermediary you ask? According to Google, it is “a person who acts as a link between people in order to try to bring about an agreement or reconciliation; a mediator.”

As business broker practitioners, we prefer to refer to ourselves as “intermediaries” to enhance the professionalism of our industry by disassociating any negative connotations with the term, “broker”.

In a nutshell intermediaries assist buyers and sellers of privately held business in the buying and selling process. Once contacted, they evaluate the business by estimating the value, advertise the business for sale, handle potential buyer interviews, negotiate meetings and facilitate the closing of business sale after due diligence research.

Organization connections in proprietorship transactions include the representation of an intermediary (for the benefit of a financier organization) of the selling principal, whether that individual is a buyer or a seller. The intermediary (and his/her company) then turns into the company of the intermediary, who is the intermediary's partner. The other party in the transaction, who is not associated with the organization’s intermediary, is the intermediaries’ client.
