SBA and AARP Partner to Assist Entrepreneurs into Business Ownership
Reflects Increase among Adults over Age 50 Desiring to Develop New Careers

The Small Business Association (SBA) and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) have joined together to assist entrepreneurs age 50 and older with achieving business ownership. Given the recent figures that show entrepreneurship rates have risen in this age demographic, both organizations see this an ample opportunity to help usher in a boom in small business ownership.

In a recent article by the South Bend Tribune, Michael Chodos, Associate Administrator for Entrepreneur Development for the SBA, was quoted in stating that their goal is to train as many as 100,000 people to become successful business owners, using many of the tools available by the SBA with the aid of the AARP.

"Whether you are 20-something or 50-something and starting a new business, you need to know how to plan, how to think about all the things that are required for business success," said Chodos.

VR Business Sales has assisted hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs fulfill their goals of business ownership worldwide for over 30 years. IFA Aggressively Recruiting Military Veterans into Franchise Ownership

Goal is to Hire 75,000 Veterans over Next Five Years

The International Franchise Association (IFA) in partnership with the White House-led Joining Forces Initiative has been aggressively recruiting military veterans into franchising through an effort called Operation Enduring Opportunity. Launched last November, the goal is to hire and recruit 75,000 veterans and their spouses as well as 5,000 wounded veterans as business owners and employees in franchises over the next five years.

Over 450 franchisors, including VR Business Sales, are offering discounts to veterans through the VetFran program, a rise from 300 back in June 2011. Since 2011, 2,100 veterans so far have gone into franchising - either as business owners and employees.

The offers by franchisors in the market include 30, 50 or 100 percent off the franchise fee for veterans - VR has waved its franchise fee for military veterans. Some franchisors have also offered half off royalties for a year, and special loans through the SBA called Patriot Express.

Veterans choose becoming a business owner because it's a way to gain back autonomy. Although they make up 6 percent of the U.S. population, 14 percent of all business owners are made up of military veterans. What makes a franchise model attractive to veterans is that it provides a lot of the structure to similar to what they've experienced in the military.

How Can an Earn-Out Strategy Resolve the Differences Between a Buyer and Seller?

In a business transaction, it's not uncommon for buyers and sellers to be worlds apart on a purchasing price. As publicized as they are, you will seldom see transactions involving mid-market and large companies, where a buyer can make use of publicly-traded stock. In most cases, it's a matter of an aspiring or experienced entrepreneur looking to purchase a small business, where the issue of how the sale will be paid for and where the funds will come from is always going to be present.
