What should you look  for when looking to buy a business?  Most buyer’s want to buy existing businesses with a proven track record of success so they will not have to worry about the business failing.  Most NEW businesses fail in the first few years of operation so buying a proven business eliminates some of that uncertainty.

Business buyers are admonished to not buy any business they cannot envision making substantial improvements to.  It is nearly impossible to keep a business running in a straight growth line, businesses are usually increasing or decreasing in sales and profitability.   The key is to look for businesses with a definite “upside” of growth potential.  Many businesses can be improved just by bringing in a new inspired, upbeat owner.  Often the selling owner is ready to retire and may have not been working to grow the business as much as when they were younger.  With VR in Tyler’s policy of only representing quality business listings, the opportunity to grow almost all of the businesses we have for sale is quite realistic.
