Additional story regarding above transaction:
Larry Lawson Successfully Sells National Multi-Unit Franchisor
VR Corporate is proud to announce that VR in Clearwater Owner Larry Lawson made VR history recently by facilitating the sale of the first national multi-unit franchisor. Color-All Technologies in the automotive aftermarket industry was sold in March 2009 for $4.5 million.
Color-All Technologies is recognized as a pioneer in mobile automotive color reconditioning with over 100 locations nationwide that performs reparative and touch-up painting to damaged and blemished vehicles utilizing area franchise operators. The company refers to themselves as a body shop on wheels. They have been successful through their unique methods of delivering low-cost, on-site repair and repainting of light to medium-level vehicle body, fleet truck bodies and repairing bumper damage.
Company owners Gil Rosenbrier and Jerry Prigal chose VR because of their international exposure and how they lead the market in sales of privately-held companies.
"We got into the conversation on how to divest a portion of their company, looking at particular states that they wanted to sell, starting a program per state where they could sell each location as an individual master franchise," recalls Larry.
"I explained to them that it would be better to sell their entire company if they were planning to divest, so we then worked on different structures and tax strategies for their exit. That eventually led to my finding an option that was acceptable to them, and we moved forward with the engagement to sell their company."
The entire process took 12 months to complete. "I learned a tremendous amount about the process of selling a franchisor, and what that entails," said Larry, who looks forward to working with additional franchisors in the future.
With this latest accomplishment of selling a franchisor, Larry has added to his already-existing array of accolades spanning the past eight years. His innovative contributions of cutting-edge transactional and marketing tools have been shared with VR firms internationally. He feels that his experience can serve as a resource for others to build their own success when they come across these kinds of engagements.
"I feel that what I underwent with Color-All Technologies is a great learning process that other intermediaries can learn from and make themselves successful with other franchisors that are looking to sell," says Larry. "I like to feel I can answer questions that one may have when going through a similar process."

Congratulations to Wayne Schulaski of the VR Office in Lutz, Florida for his successful closing of a dollar store in Brandon last month, and the first transaction for this new office. Only on the market for a couple of months, the business was a great opportunity for the buyer who enters ownership with a large inventory already in place.
