The Selling Process
The Selling Process is similar to a real estate transaction and an investment transaction. Similar to a real estate transaction in that time is involved in the sale process. Similar to an investment transaction in that your representative is doing work behind the scenes screening potential buyers to make sure they meet or exceed the seller expectations for consideration as a viable buyer.
As a seller, how you want the buyer to finance their investment directly effects the length of the selling process. The better prepared you are to meet the buyers due diligence requests will impact the closing time. The quality of your financial records plays a major role in buyer due diligence and documenting your asking price. The amount of flexibility on the part of both parties can reduce the closing time. Typically you can expect six to twelve months for closing. Your representative should be working behind the scenes on the sale giving you the time to maintain focus on the day-to-day operations of the business.
