Jey Arul
President / Deal Maker

Jey Arul is the Managing Director of VR Business Brokers in Alberta.

Jey introduced VR Business Brokers to Alberta in 2010, after spending 8 years in Commercial Banking and Corporate Finance. Jey established VR after identifying an unmet need for small and mid size companies when it comes to buying, selling and valuations.  Since that time, Jey has assisted business owners in Alberta execute acquisitions, sale of their businesses, and joint-ventures, often helping them effect transactions with buyers from across Canada and the United States. 

Since 2010, Jey has personally transacted over 55 companies in Alberta in a number of industries including, manufacturing, medical, service, oil and gas, transportation, retail, etc.

During his free time, Jey has always been an active member of the community as well. He has volunteered for a number of organizations including The United Way, The Canadian Bankers Association and Junior Achievement. Presently Jey is also the Director of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) Canadian Chapter, an international association for people and firms engaged in business brokerage and mergers and acquisitions.

Jey is also fluent in three languages (English, Malay and Tamil) and value diversity. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA in Psychology and completed the MBA program from Athabasca University-Center for Innovative Management. In addition, he has also completed the Canadian Securities Course, and holds a Real Estate Brokers’ license through the Real Estate Council of Alberta. Jey also earned his Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation, which is a prestigious designation exclusive to the IBBA that identifies experienced and dedicated business brokers. It is awarded to intermediaries who have proven professional excellence through verified education as well as exemplary commitment to our industry.

 Siew Cheng

Siew joined VR Edmonton office in 2012 as VP of Operations.  Prior to joining VR, Siew worked in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.  As a research chemist at the University of Alberta, she developed analytical methods for the analysis of pharmaceutical products and metabolites in biological fluids.  In 2007, she joined Gilead Alberta as a research scientist and led her team to provide analytical support for commercial and developmental pharmaceutical product.  Siew was also involved in the strategic planning and laboratory design for two expansions of Quality Control department at Gilead Alberta.  Siew brings her organizational skills as well as project and team management skills to enhance VR operations for future growth.  Since joining VR, Siew has worked to formalize processes used in the company and assist with training support staff.  She has taken on a new role as the opportunities advisor, primarily assisting buyers in their acquisition of a business.
 
Nathalie Lacroix brings extensive experience as a franchise development manager and Para-legal in Ontario and Quebec. She moved to Alberta in 2009 and continued to expand her franchise sales consulting business and recently became a licensed real estate associate in Alberta.

After working for many years in law firms and studying contract law at the University of Montreal, Nathalie ventured into the exciting world of franchise development with A&W Foods Services of Canada Inc. for almost 5 years.

Fluent in French and English, Nathalie’s specialty is in Buyer Representation. That is, she works directly with business buyers – individual owner/operators, investors or corporations to clearly define the specific type of business that is right for them … then goes out and finds it! Nathalie is widely respected by, and has close working relationships with various Franchise organizations and she is working on introducing several new concepts to the Alberta market soon.

 
Julie joined VR Business Sales as VP and Deal Maker after spending a number of years in accounting, sales and marketing. Julie spend almost 17 years has a Controller and Team Lead for both local and international companies in Alberta. Julie then decided to make a career change and started her own real estate practice focusing on selling real estate properties in Parkland County and surrounding neighborhoods. With a combined skill sets of a real estate associate and accountant she brings with her a wealth of knowledge, technical strengths, and negotiating skills.
 
Julie is also very involved in the community. She is an active member of Parkland Search and Rescue and assisted in numerous flood and forest fire efforts all across Alberta. During her free time, she enjoys her road bike and has participated and raised funds for a number of charitable organizations including, Ride for the Cure, Stollery Children's Hospital and local Christmas charities.

Ryan is the Director of VR Business Sales in Edmonton servicing Central and Southern Alberta.  In addition to 15 years of entrepreneurial and consulting experience in the software and oil & gas industries, he has also owned and operated his own real estate appraisal company. The last several years have been solely focused on assisting business sellers find their ideal exit strategy while helping buyers find opportunities that best fit with their abilities and lifestyle & financial requirements.

Ryan is an objective and creative problem-solver who keeps everyone on the same page while working towards a successful transition. He is an advocate of win-win situations, strictly adhering to business brokerage code of ethics and committed to professional excellence and total confidentiality. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, painting and writing. He is also an avid sports fan.

Ryan strongly believes that using a qualified business broker to sell your business will ensure the best exchange of value for all parties involved, with the least amount of risk.

Nicole joined the VR Team in October 2013.  She graduated from J. Percy Page High School with distinction and has always been interested in business and customer service.  After graduation Nicole worked in a very fast paced and top car dealership office in Edmonton. Nicole is a very meticulous and detailed orientated individual who takes great care in ensuring that client's expectations are met. In a short period of time, she has learned many of the processes used at VR and is now working towards further increasing her understanding of the Buyer and Seller relationships.
 
In her spare time, Nicole enjoys traveling, playing soccer, snowboarding and volunteering.
