At VR in Chattanooga, if we agree to represent a business, we market it at our own expense. This is the computer age, and the Internet is the leading venue for marketing businesses of all types today. We routinely list businesses on nine or ten different websites at the same time. We never specifically identify a business or its location (except in the rare instance when we are specifically requested to do so by the seller,) and we never reveal substantive details prior to having received a signed, legally binding Non-Disclosure Agreement from the prospective buyer, as well as having made a determination of the prospect’s financial capacity to complete any potential transaction. 

We only use local newspaper listings when we believe that to do so is in the best interest of the seller. It may be counter-intuitive, but we’ve found that local newspaper ads produce more tire kickers than the Internet! Serious buyers today know that the Internet is the real forum for the marketplace, and routinely go there to find what they want.

We also place ads for selected larger businesses in trade journals when appropriate, although this draws the process out over a longer period of time. 

The first thing we always do, though, is to review our buyer’s list and call these persons by phone immediately when we see a possible match. We also place calls to specifically targeted potential buyers within that industry.  Then, we check with our friends and associates in the other VR offices, and work with them whenever possible.
