 ColorTyme is extremely proud of its rent-to-own history. We have been providing a way for our customers to acquire goods and services that they need and desire for more than 30 years. Customers acquire their products from us in a way that is affordable, with no obligation, and we do this without requiring credit. We have also been providing a way for folks to become successful franchise operators through our innovative financing programs for new or existing store owners.
How It All Started
The ColorTyme rent-to-own brand started in 1980 in Athens, Texas by Willie Talley. Mr. Talley sold Curtis Mathes color televisions, but realized that many of his customers couldn’t afford to buy a new TV. With ColorTyme, he began offering payment plans to customers so they could pay over time with multiple inexpensive payments.
Today with more than 190 stores across the U.S., ColorTyme is a franchise-only brand, which makes it unique in the rent-to-own industry. Because our stores are locally-owned or operated, franchisees can customize product mix and promotional offers to best meet the needs of their local community and build meaningful relationships with customers.

 There’s no better time to get into the rent-to-own industry. In the tough economy, rent-to-own is a smart and necessary way to obtain living essentials. ColorTyme is a great alternative for customers who don’t want to incur debt or simply don’t have the cash or credit needed to purchase items for their home.
They might be in the process of repairing their credit, saving funds for unexpected events, or financially burdened by rising costs. Whatever their individual situation, ColorTyme customers turn to our franchisees with a genuine need for furniture, appliances and electronics, and we enjoy providing many options to create a transaction that works for them.

Customers acquire their products from us in a way that is affordable, with no credit check and no obligation past the initial rental period:
- All customers are pre-approved with proof of income and residence
- Payments can be made by phone, or in the ColorTyme store
- Early Purchase Option (EPO) allows customers acquire their merchandise at 50% of the remaining rental payments, effectively bringing the cost more in line with retail prices
- Maintenance is included while items are on rent and customers are not charged for delivery and set-up
- Customers can even stop paying and return their products to us and later choose to pick up the process right where they left off with what are called reinstatement rights

 Our relationship with our franchisees is of upmost importance; that’s why we help each franchisee from the very beginning to help ensure the success of the business. We provide comprehensive training and support geared to maximize the potential revenues you can achieve. Plus, along with being listed with the SBA Franchise Registry, we provide financing programs through our current financial partner. The rates are market competitive and the programs are geared specifically to the rent-to-own industry.
